Recall Attempt #3
Well, they couldn't get their language passed by the election commission for the second attempt. This time they went to the election commission with 3 new versions of recall ballot language. They threw it against the wall and hoped something would stick, unfortunately, not only did one of them stick, I gave them additional motivated resources.
So now they want to recall me because of the termination of nine Taylor police officers on April 27th. Even though it was pretty clear they couldn't get enough signatures to put it on the ballot after the first time, now they had the perfect little lie.
Not one officer was terminated. Layoffs took affect on May 1 in order to try and preserve some available funds in order to minimize any additional layoffs after the July 1 budget took affect. But now the recall group could lie to the people when they knocked on their door. They could ask them to sign a petition to recall the nine laid off officers. Some people fell for it, some didn't. I know, I've talked to some of them.
Now, even though those officers were called back to work July, 11th. The recall group filed their paper work on August 2nd, 23 days after the officers they were so concerned about returned to work. Which is clear, this has never been about anything wrong in the city. It has been about the ENTITLEMENT these people, former employees and appointees, who kept taking the free handouts as political kickbacks and are now upset they don't have their hand in the cookie jar.
And, due to retirements and contractual cost restructuring, the City will be hiring new officers in the coming months.
